That Certain Boy - Kathy Linden

Felsted FL 7501
1959

From the back cover: As with all "overnight" successes Kathy Linden, of Burlington, New Jersey, did not burst upon the scene in full bloom, deciding to become a singer the night before she recorded "Billy". She made her theatrical debut 15 years ago when at the age of four she appeared on stage in New Jersey as a ballet dancer, singer, violinist and paints and as such had appeared in many Jersey clubs. A few months ago she was brought to the attention of Joe Leahy who auditioned her and liked what he heard.

Joe Leahy developed the theme of the album: songs about boys, particular boys (Bill, Dave, Harry) and, because Kathy's singing had a quality of intimacy and directness that makes the listener fell she is singing right to him personally, yours truly came up with the title song for the album "That Certain Boy". That's the story. It's a story that's only really just begun, too, because Kathy Linden, a star at 19, is going to add a lot of happy chapters to our saga of popular music. – Steve Allen, July 1958

From Billboard - June 8, 1959: The "Billy" girl from Felsted offers this hit, plus "Oh Johnny, Oh Johnny Oh," "You'd Be Surprised," and a host of tributes to boy friends like "Georgie," "I Love You Dave," "I Like Mike," etc. Ork backings are nicely handled by Joe Leahy. Liner notes are by Steve Allen, one of the gal's admitted fans. On strength of her current singles popularity, this can garner sales and spins.
