Piano Magic at Cocktail Time

Clari De Lune
Piano Magic At Cocktail Time
Favorite Music For Cocktails & Conversation
The Relaxed And Romantic Moods Of Pietro Dero
Somerset SF-26200
1967

Not a bad record for the budget label, Somerset. Fun vintage cover and some nice music. Dero uses an odd rhythm technique for much of the record. It sound like a guitar strum on the upbeat and a bass note on the downbeat. The technique seems a bit overused. I find it curious, almost robotic. However, Dero leaves out all but the bass line in the one track I've picked as a sample song. Beautiful.

Taiwanese Soundtrack

As best that I can make out this is a 60s vintage Taiwanese movie soundtrack album. There are B&W movie stills on the back that make the film look like it was marketed towards teenagers.

This is the second Taiwanese soundtrack album I've found. This music has been very unique and it doesn't matter that I can't understand a word of it.

I've strung together a few songs for your enjoyment.

High Society Sound Effects Farting Contest

High Society Records
Sound Effects 508

Apparently, although I can find no information on this record. I know of other 78 rpm records on this "label" that are "blue" recordings. Very tame, but naughty stuff.

In this case you have a farting contest.

Enjoy!

Dance To The Swing Organ

Shangri-La
Dance To Swing Organ
The Mustang
Plays The Swingin'est Hammond For Your Dancing Or Listening Pleasure!!!
Somerset SF-22300
1965

Apparently The Mustang, who ever he, is made several albums for Somerset. Organ Freakout would be the one I'd really like to find for the cover art. Instead, on this project Somerset uses, what is probably stock art.

Somerset is a hardcore budget label and this is a budget record. The identity of The Mustang is obscured for the most part, but I did find two references to Paul Griffin. One on spaceagepop.com.

I love this LP because it really isn't all that swinging and seems sort of flat when compared to other similar recordings of the time. Which gives the sound that nice low-budget 60s lounge sound. There are several tunes that rise above the cheese. Shangri-La is one that sets a nice mood.

1972 Sexual I.Q. Test

Sexual I.Q. Test
GM Gordon Maxin GM 1001
1972

Test yourself and find out how "Vastly superior in total emotional and physical sexuality" you are.

I'm not exactly sure how this record was marketed. The cover isn't titillating. But this was the early 70s and the middle class folk were more publicly interested in experimenting. Therefore, for people over 30 years of age, the idea of "rating" your sexual nature may have been enough to make the sale.

The point of this record is to find out if you've got any hang ups. But even by 70s standards, you get no results from the test. You'll note that all but the worse "scores" win, so to speak. There is no "analysis" to be found in the material.

There are a number of silly questions that date the record.

I've scanned the test sheet so that you can print it out and take the test. As the voiceover announcer says "Good luck!"  As I say... I hope you get lucky!

RCA Orthophonic

video

1955 RCA Orthophonic High Fidelity
Model 7HF45

My antique show score yesterday was this Atomic Age Stereo Turntable. Sold originally for $80 it came as a table top, or to make it freestanding, with these nice space age legs. The case apparently came in blonde or mahogany finish. This is the lighter case.

I was able to play a record, although mechanically there are issues. I'm sure this player has sat around for decades. I'm surprised that it worked at all.

I'm going to try and post a snippet of video under the photos so that you can hear the results of the first record this player has seen in years.

Music For The Sensational Sixties

Echoes Of Webster Hall
Music For The Sensational Sixties
The Futuramic Sounds Of Don Elliott And His Orchestra
Design Records, Division Of Pickwick Sales DLP 69
1957

Here's a record that is dated 1957, but is titled Sensational Sixties. Very bachelor pad/space age, even "Futuramic"! There are a few tracks on this LP that are pretty Futuramic! That's Don in the sample track posted above coming to you from space.  The album is uneven in theme/content but interesting and cool throughout.

That's Elliott, on the cover, riding that cool Vespa motor scooter.
