Renata Tebaldi As Tosca

I'm not into this music form, but I love vintage London Record cover art. And here's another stunning example. Simple, dramatic and perfect. Photo credit: Sedge Le Blang.

The Mystic Moods Of Love Orchestra
The Mystic Moods Of Love
The Mystic Moods OrchestraPhilips PHS 600-260
1968
Well, I was hoping to post a sample, but apparently this Mystic Moods project was popular enough to be in print on CD.
This is my first exposure to Mystic Moods (having found this LP at a thrift).
You can read all about Brad Miller and Mystic Moods on Space Age Pop.
The deal is on this LP and apparently other Miller projects is that Miller likes to combine sound effects with his brand of easy listening. Rain starts off this LP and it storms all the way through the LP. According to the notes Miller recorded these effects just for this project. At first I thought all the rain would be annoying but the layering of music and sound effects does create a pleasant and interesting mood. The sound effects helps to blend one track into another. The blending of tracks is an appealing technique that creates more of a single soundscape rather then an LP with a collection of individual tracks.
This is one of my favorite space age easy listening records.

Eddie Layton - Organ Sounds & Percussion

Eddie Layton
Organ Sounds & Percussion
Perfect Presence Sound
Mercury Records PPS 6029
I'm having trouble dating this LP. This is an album from Mercury's Perfect Presence Sound Series. I think this series was started in 1961. The cover "look" and gatefold is strikingly similar to those found on Enoch Light's Command Label product from the same period. And Light was one of the first to use 35mm film to record. So I'm not sure who is the trend setter. I think Mercury followed Light's lead.
None-the-less, like Command projects, this is a well engineered "space pop" LP with a few exotica flavored tracks mixed in with the more standard tracks.

The Voice Of Miliza Korjus
RCA CAMDEN CAL 297
1959
Terrific 2 color cover on RCA's budget label.
This LP has a bit of a hollywood flare to it. Korjus did work in a number of films. She was nominated for the Academy Award For Best Supporting Actress for her first film appearance in The Great Waltz (1938).
Of note, in 1944 or thereabouts she settled in Los Angeles and founded Venus Records so that she could release her earlier recordings.
This type of music is outside of what I collect. But I must admit that a blood red cover with a beautiful woman screeching in a foreign language always gets my attention. OK... I know she isn't "screeching"! The sample posted isn't too far away from what you might find on a Yma Sumac exotica LP.
Enjoy!

Young Ho! Go Chevron! 1965 Standard Oil Company Promo Record
This "record" is an 8 x 8 inch sheet of very thin red plastic. The sound is surprisingly good.
The same promo in three speeds. I'm not sure how the promotional item was distributed. Radio station ad?

Another in the series of budget records created exclusively for Woolworths Department Stores by Enoch Light probably in the mid 1950s.
There is one way cool tune by Trudy Richards on this 10 inch 33 RPM.
