Tahitian Percussion

Yarbon
Tahitian Percussion
The Tahitian Percussionists and Exotic Voices
AL-FI C 4075

There are no notes on the jacket concerning the contents. I can't find anything on the internet by title or record company.

There you go. Small label release, probably 60 or 61 just after The Command Label started the "Percussion" trend. Creatively executed cover with exciting and exotic music good for any Tiki Party you may be planning!

Persuasive Percussion Volumes 1,2,3,4

Enoch Light
Command Record
Persuasive Percussion Series

As far as I know, there are only 4 volumes in this particular Command series of LPs.

I've posted each album individually with a sample. You can link to those pages by clicking the links below the images.

I love the art, so I thought it would be nice to see the jackets together.

Persuasive Percussion Volume 2

Out Of Nowhere
Persuasive Percussion
Volume 2
Terry Snyder and The All Stars
Command Records SMAS 90111
Produced By Enoch Light
Art Director Charles E. Murphy
Cover Art by Barbara Jean Brown
1959

Another great cover and LP from Command.

Command was known for releasing product with terrific abstract minimalist cover art as well as product with superb engineering. It is always a delight to listen to a Command Record. The audio is amazingly sharp. Hats off to Enoch Light for his approach.

The music on this volume departs from the "exotica" flavor of the first installment of the series. A record I highly recommend. This record doesn't yet have that total 60s "light pop" sound, but you can hear it coming. There is still a hint of exotica here, some jazz influence and... yes, some of that crazy 60s pop.

Yellow Bird - Arthur Lyman

Yellow Bird
Arthur Lyman
HIFI RECORDS, INC
L-1004
1960/61

Another great exotica LP from Lyman. CDs and downloads are available so I won' be posting a sample.

The first copy I purchased of this record came with a yellow label. I wasn't happy with the quality of that record so I purchased another copy (bad description of condition by seller). This copy sported a red label and the jacket was a gate fold. I've posted scans of the gate fold.

Apparently, HIFI was sold to Everest Records around 1965 and the Life Series Label was changed to yellow. This record was reissued in a jacket that looked exactly the same, except with word "STEREO" was added to the top of the back jacket and cover was printed without a gate fold.

Dates of reissue would have to be after 1965, although I can't pin point the date.

Was the original pressing mono?

Guatemalan Marimbas

La Calle Del Sol
Guatemalan Marimbas
Maderas De Mi Terra Orchestra Of Guatemala City Directed By Higinio Ovalle Bethancourt
Capitol Records T10170
1958

In the late 50s exotica was becoming a popular form of music in the states. The Marimba was a key instrument used by many musicians to create that sound.

So it make sense that Capitol would be open to a Marimba recording. Apparently Capitol released this LP and other music from around the world in a "Library" they called "Capitol" Of The World.

La Calle Del Sol, has a bit of that good old USA exotica flavor to it.

Enjoy!
