Persuasive Percussion Volume 4

Oh Lady Be Good
Persuasive Percussion Volume 4
Enoch Light and The Command All Stars
Command Records RS 830 SD
Originated and Produced by Enoch Light 1961

This cover was designed By Charles E. Murphy.

Another nice LP that repeats the blend of jazz and 60s flavored easy listening pop found on Volume 3. Once again, we hear the crystal clear Command Label sound (Recording Chief Robert Fine).

Persuasive Percussion Volume 3

Bingo Bango Bongo Baby
Persuasive Percussion Volume 3
Enoch Light
The Command All Stars
Command RS 33-817.
1960 Grand Award Publishing Co.

Excellent album, as I've come to expect from Enoch Light's Command record label. Excellent engineering is the hallmark of projects coming out of Command under Light.

Even though this volume of Persuasive Percussion came out just a year after volume 1 (which is heavily exotic) you can hear Light's music (direction) pushing through "space age bachelor pad" music towards 60s jazz/easy listening hybrid. Doc Severinsen is listed in this iteration of The Command All-Stars. Severinsen became the house band leader on The Johnny Carson Show in 1967.

And again we have a marvelous cover designed by Josef Albers. This "style" of cover art graced many of The Command products. As an image, the designs always managed, with the upmost simplicity, to capture what the project is all about. The cover design is by Josef Albers.

This LP was never released on CD to the best of my knowledge. So enjoy one of the cooler track as an example.

Excellent album, as I've come to expect from Enoch Light's Command record label. Excellent engineering is the hallmark of projects coming out of Command under Light.

There are many great exotica flavored tracks on this LP.

This is the first volume in the Persuasive Percussion releases and the first LP coming out of Command with a gate fold. The gate fold offered space on the jacket to explain the process of how the record was made and to give the listener some info on each track. And of course, as an artist, I love the minimalist cover art. This "style" of cover art graced many of The Command products.  As an image, the designs always managed, with the upmost simplicity, to capture what the project is all about. The cover design is by Josef Albers.

By way of example, I offer Tabu (yes, not Taboo... none-the-less, this is a cover of that popular exotica song). It's amazing.

This LP is no longer in print (on CD).

Fun 1948 vintage 7" 78 rpm children's picture disc record.

Sorry the record is so beat up that I couldn't record from it.

Ellis In Wonderland

Ellis In Wonderland
Ray Ellis and His Orchestra
Columbia CL 933 1957

Terrific cheesecake cover art helps dress up an dreamy easy listening LP.

This record is in release on CD with another Ellis project: Let's Get Away From It All. So I won't be featuring a sample. The track You're My Girl has a nice exotica touch to it.

Earl Bostic Plays Sweet Tunes Of The Fantastic 50s

Canadian Sunset
Earl Bostic Plays Sweet Tunes Of The Fantastic 50s
King Records 602, 1959

Terrific cover art of an X-15 illustrated by L. Paleno. The X-15 was one of the devices leading America into the space age. There is a newspaper clipping on the rear jacket cover that describes the craft.

The album is a nice blend of 50s pop, jazz and exotica with Bostic up front belting out tunes on his sax.
