VERY COOL Vintage Lanshire Rocket Clock

OKAY DOHKEY

I'm sharing today a VERY COOL Lanshire Rocket Clock I traded stuff for in the late 80s. It came from a shop, The Green Parrot, in The MainStrasse Area in Covington Ky. The asking price was $175. So it was a pricey thing back then. I traded a very cool Atomic Lamp I had no room for.

I can't find any examples of this clock online or, for that matter, much information on The Lanshire Clock Company. Apparently no one has complied a reference work on Lanshire (as of 2008). The company had their day in the 50s and 60s making all types of clocks styles. They made many styles of cheap porcelain clocks.

To my eye, it appears like they made clocks for the low end consumer market.

My atomic clock is unlike any other example that I can find. This is a large piece. The Rocket is made out of metal. The light in the tail has a switch which turns on a Christmas Tree light bulb that you can see in the photo. Very fun!

Note the little foil rocket on the second hand. Nice touch. The clock still works.

  3. I have this same clock as well. I traded for it also a Chicago Band Shell. I received in return my original investment plus this clock and a very cool lamp. Until your post, I had only seen a picture of it in a book. The antique store in LA where I got it said they had only ever seen three of these. So I think it's pretty rare. Mine works as well. Thanks for you post.

  10. The clock was a marketing item for Oldsmobile, World globe and Rocket. Think Rocket engines, 1950's, same logo is found on early fifties Oldsmobiles. Globe emblem was on Hood and trunk, Twin rockets on Hood.

    1. If you take American Pickers word as the experts it is not an Oldsmobile clock. They thought it was when they bought it, but on appraisal they discovered it had nothing to do with Oldsmobile.
